Monthly Programs
Meetings are held the third
Monday of the month September through May at Galilee Episcopal Church,
40th and Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach at 7:00 p.m. A brief businesss meeting
preceeds the speaker and refreshments follow. The public is invited to
join these interesting and informative presentations.
September 17th: Monthly Meeting and Program.
Not to be missed! Our own Terry Jenkins and Aaron Decker present "Terry
and Aaron’s Excellent Colorado Birding Adventure: Birds and Tales
(some true) from Colorado in Mid-April." Birds included are sage
grouse, prairie chickens,
rosy finches and white-tailed ptarmigan.
October 15th: Monthly Meeting and Program.
Another Virginia Beach Audubon favorite, Ms. Linda Anderson, presents
Birds of Costa Rica.
November 19th: Monthly Meeting and Program.November's
speaker will be Jethro Runco, who is the birdbander at Kiptopeake State
Park on the Eastern Shore. He is going to speak on his job in Idaho
this past year, which involved long-billed curlews, flammulated owls,
and high elevation bird surveys.
December 10th: Holiday Party. Note this
date is the second Monday and also at 6:00 p.m. Contact Pat
Ward (757-377-8463) Bring a side dish or dessert to share. Audubon will
provide beverages and meat entrees. Family and/or friends are welcome.
Please let Pat know what you will bring and how many guests.
January 21: Gregory Hodges and Neil Rondorf:
Offshore Wind Power and Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium
current research activities. Greg and Neil will speak about renewable
energy initiatives including offshore wind power and the concerns over
the location of wind farms in the paths of migratory birds,the impact
on birds, and aesthetics.
February 18: Ned Brinkley – subject
yet to be determined.
March 17: Peter Doherty. Peter is the
bird-bander at First Landing State Park . He will speak about his saw-whet
owl banding project that took place this winter and his current brown-headed
nuthatch project taking place in the state park.
April 21: Bob Anderson.Bob will speak
about his experiences looking for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker.
